The Limestone Coast Academy of Sport (LCAS) athletics program provides high-performance coaching and training opportunities to help athletes develop their skills and progress towards higher levels of representation within the sport. LCAS plays an important role in the athlete development pathway by identifying, supporting, and preparing talented young track and field athletes from across the region.

The program bridges the gap between local competition and state/national pathways. Athletes are given the opportunity to train in a supportive high-performance environment while building the skills required to progress towards higher representation across various athletics disciplines.

Athletes selected for the program will receive access to:

  • Intensive athletics training sessions focused on event-specific technique, race strategies, and performance development
  • Strength and conditioning sessions to improve power, speed, endurance, and injury prevention
  • Sports science support, including fitness testing, recovery strategies, and performance monitoring
  • Athlete education workshops covering topics such as nutrition, sports psychology, motivation, and leadership
  • Access to specialised coaches and guest presenters

To be considered for the 2026 LCAS Athletics Program, athletes must:

  • Be aged within the Academy’s targeted development categories (e.g., U14, U16, or U18)
  • Reside, attend school, undertake tertiary education, or be meaningfully employed/training within the LCAS catchment area
  • Be a current registered member of their local athletics club or association
  • Submit a nomination form before the advertised closing date
  • Demonstrate competitive experience at club or regional level

The following factors may be considered during selection:

  • Performance and results at relevant athletics competitions and events
  • Technical proficiency in chosen discipline(s) and potential for improvement
  • Physical attributes and athletic potential (speed, strength, coordination, endurance)
  • Competitive drive and commitment to training and development
  • Individual application and athletic goals
  • Coachability and behaviour both at training and competition
  • Potential for progression within athletics pathways
  • Work ethic and dedication to sport-specific training requirements
  • Ability to balance multiple event disciplines (where applicable)

Selected athletes will take part in a structured program of coaching sessions, athlete education, and development opportunities throughout 2026. The program is designed to complement club and competition commitments while providing access to quality coaching and resources to support long-term athletic progression.

The program will cater to athletes across multiple athletics disciplines including track events (sprints, middle distance, distance, hurdles, relays), field events (jumps, throws), and combined events (heptathlon/decathlon).

An athlete levy will apply to those selected, which will be confirmed at the time of selection.
