The Limestone Coast Academy of Sport (LCAS) AFLW program is designed to support young female footballers in their development, providing the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to progress along the AFLW talent pathway.

The program prepares athletes for higher levels of competition and aims to develop well-rounded players who are technically skilled, physically prepared, and mentally resilient. While selection in AFLW pathways is not guaranteed, all athletes are encouraged to strive for ongoing improvement and readiness for representative opportunities.

Athletes selected for the program will receive access to:

  • Face-to-face training sessions focusing on kicking, handball, tackling technique, and game play
  • Strength & conditioning programs delivered both on-field and in the gym (agility, running, coordination, and strength)
  • Athlete education workshops in areas such as nutrition, sports psychology, motivation, leadership, and load management
  • Access to a network of specialised coaches and guest presenters
  • Access to recommended service providers such as physiotherapy and podiatry

To be considered for the LCAS AFLW Program, athletes must:

  • Fall within the Academy’s targeted age categories (e.g., U13, U15, or U17)
  • Reside, attend school, or train within the LCAS catchment area
  • Be a registered member of a local Aussie Rules club or association
  • Submit a nomination form before the advertised closing date

The following factors may be considered during selection:

  • Performance and potential demonstrated in club or representative competitions
  • Technical and tactical ability
  • Physical attributes and athletic potential
  • Competitive drive and commitment to training
  • Individual application
  • Coachability and behaviour
